Boredom Buster for Kids

What Are Some Boredom Busters for Kids?

All moms have heard it – once the frenzy of unwrapping all the holiday presents is over, comes that dreaded utterance, “I’m bored…”  And there’s still a week of vacation left to contend with.  So what’s a mom to do?  It’s time to bring out fun indoor activites for kdis that are guaranteed to break up the boredom and give you a bit of a break.

1. Go for the board (not bored) games – say no to the Wii, Xbox and the DSi and bring out the old-fashioned board games that are age appropriate for the whole family – or at least the kids.  Stumped for some ideas?  Here are the classics

  • checkers
  • chess
  • Life
  • Monopoly
  • Scrabble
  • Trivial Pursuit
  • Clue

You can make a family night out of it, or have the kids go head to head.  To make it extra interesting, load up on some inexpensive prizes or offer coupons for an outing to the winner of the board game tournament.

2. Get Outside – Snowball fight – if you’re lucky enough to have snow on the ground then get outside.  Set the kids up into teams and have them launch a snowball war.  Or if they’re not into that, head up a snowman competition – pile up decorations like extra hats, scarfs, gloves and other items in a big box and have everyone build their own crazy snowman.  You can award prizes for the best one, or just take a family picture to remember the good times.  The kids will be so exhausted from an afternoon of fresh air, they’ll be too tired to complain about boredom.
3. Bake Together – Find a few favorite recipes – for fudge, cookies or candy and make a big batch.  Package them up and distribute them to the neighbors, the firehouse and the police department as a way of saying thank you.  You and the kids will have fun baking and putting together the holiday packages.

With just a bit of strategizing , any parent can find a boredom buster for kids.
